Lasers provide a precise and bloodless method of operating on the delicate structures of the ear. The CO2 (carbon dioxide), Argon and KTP lasers are the princpal types of lasers used in ear surgery. Lasers can stop bleeding (coagulation) because of their selective absorbtion in the red spectrum. It can also vaporize tissue.
The safety of lasers in ear surgery is confirmed by this authors experience with them in over 1,000 major ear operations as well as confirmation reached after learning of similar experiences of other ear surgeons.
