The ear is the prime organ of hearing and balance, two functions which are most important to every facet of our everyday lives. Ears have three components which work in tandem to produce these


It is important to understand their makeup and functioning in the overall processes of hearing and balance. Thus, these pages will try to inform.


DISEASES, INJURIES AND INFLAMMATIONS OF THE EAR INCLUDE:



Hearing loss can be categorized into only three types:

     
  1. CONDUCTIVE hearing loss due to reduced transmission of sound waves through the ear drum and the bones of hearing.
  2. SOME CASE HISTORIES--A TRAUMATIC DISLOCATION
  3. NERVE loss or absence, usually the result of neural damage or a complete absence of the nerves or hearing
  4. MIXED hearing loss due to a combination of conductive and neural loss
Most surgically treatable types of hearing loss pertain to CONDUCTIVE loss.
